Elie Saab & Schiaparelli – Haute Couture – Paris 2016

In January, in Paris the spectacular shows of haute couture – spring / summer 2016 took place. In the world of fashion this is one of the most important and prestigious events, a true celebration of fashion.

Haute couture (French for “high fashion”) is  the luxury tailoring, beautiful creations usually hand-made from the highest quality materials. Intricately crafted and finished. At this year’s Paris Fashion Week haute couture collections were presented by Chanel, Giambattista Valii, Armani Prive, Zuhair Murad, Ulyana Sergeenko, Versace, Elie Saab i Schiaparelli. I have looked carefully at all the presented collections and creations and was mostly impressed by Elie Saab and Schiaparelli.

Elie Saab

Inspired by India, Elie Saab has created a wonderful collection. Punky Princess, (that is how I perceive the woman by Elie Saab), wears gowns with shimmering embroidery, beautiful lace and glittering stones. I really like the combination of delicate, ethereal dress with inlayed caps, heavy boots, leather belts and bags. Airy dresses, slacks and dresses draped like saris, silk crepe, georgette, chiffon, lace and beads, a combination of elements of Victorian and traditional Indian attire with a battle-like elements- I just can’t get enough of looking at these wonderful clothes.

This season, Bertrand Guyon in his collection focuses on food and time spent at the table as a return to the basics of life’s pleasures. For the designer of the brand pleasure of being with loved ones at home at the common meal is a joy of life. Guyon wishes to recall the importance of sharing and being together. Vegetable-embroidered, printed crockery and cutlery, geometric patterns are the main motives of the collection. Vintage patterns like from napkins have become the theme of elegant clothes. Schiaparelli’s women wear surreal long dresses of crepe and chiffon, often in pastel colors, which looks a little quirky, romantic and slightly ironic.
